Dream
// the ideaEverything we make starts with an idea for something that isn't out there yet. Most of the time it's ours. Sometimes a client brings us theirs. Whichever it is, that's where the work starts.
Software studio
DreamChrome is a small, independent software studio. We mostly build our own apps, and every so often we'll take on someone else's idea when it's a good one.
Who we are
The name has two parts. Here's what each one means to us.
Dream
// the ideaEverything we make starts with an idea for something that isn't out there yet. Most of the time it's ours. Sometimes a client brings us theirs. Whichever it is, that's where the work starts.
Chrome
// the finished thingChrome is the finish. It's also the actual name for the frame around an app (the “app chrome”), which was too good a coincidence to pass up. Our job is to take the idea and turn it into something real and well built, then keep at it until it genuinely feels done.
You bring the idea. We'll put the chrome on it.
What we make
Our apps are a pretty different bunch, but the same care goes into all of them.
Software for churches and for people who take their faith seriously. We're careful with this one.
Budgeting and money apps that don't nag you or try to upsell you on anything.
Apps that help a household keep track of things without much fuss.
Small, focused tools for the kind of job you just want done and over with.
Games and playful little apps. Fun to use, and properly made underneath.
How we build
This is the stuff that tends to show up in everything we make.
We spend a lot of time on the small stuff, like spacing and the way things move on screen. It's usually what separates an app that's fine from one that feels good to use.
There's real, working software under everything we show. We keep it quick and reliable, and tidy enough that it's still in good shape a few years later.
Plenty of good ideas die as nice-looking mockups. We'd rather ship the thing and get it into people's hands, even if it isn't perfect on day one.
A faith app and a budgeting tool don't have a lot in common, but both get the same attention from us. The subject changes more than our standards do.
// in short
From dream to chrome.
That's basically the whole thing.
